Magnetic Encoder Module with PWM and Serial Interface for High Precision Applications

The product features a 14-bit rotary position sensor with digital angle output and pulse width modulation (PWM) capability. The AS5048A is a 14-bit rotary position sensor for absolute angle measurement over 360 degrees, based on non-contact magnetic sensor technology. It is suitable for shaft applications where a two-pole magnet rotates above or below the sensor IC. The zero position can be programmed via simple SPI commands. Absolute magnetic angular position resolution is 14 bits (16,384 steps per revolution), with output available via SPI or I²C interface. PWM output is also provided. No precise mechanical alignment is required between the sensor’s zero position and the magnet’s poles — the zero point can be programmed in-system using SPI or I²C commands. The device offers high tolerance to mechanical misalignment, including center offset and air gap variation between the sensor and magnet, as well as operation across a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C. The AS5048 provides improved measurement accuracy compared to previous magnetic rotary encoders. Its 14-bit analog front end enables resolution down to 0.0219°, and with microcontroller-based linearization and averaging, angle accuracy reaches 0.05°.
